Apophysis is a flame fractal renderer available from "http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=127736".
The Transform Editor is the part of apophysis I use the most. When you open the transform editor (by going to the "view" tab and clicking editor) you'll see a collection of triangles. Each triangle is a transform and represents a variation (or combination of)
of the resulting fractal.
The "variations" tab you see to your right will show you which variations and their values for the transform represented in the
drop down menu at the top. As you change the values and test out different variations you'll get a feel for which ones
have the effects you're going for. This does take some time and experience.
The "variables" tab allows you to tweek the attributes of some (not all) of the variations. Again, you need to play with this feature too.
The "color" tab can help increase the color variations in very dull fractals. If you wind up with a beautiful, but
monotone fractal it helps to set the symmetry to something between 0.95 and 1 for the first 2 transforms and then
play with the "transform color" slider, you should begin to see a better variety of colors in your fractal.
The "triangle" tab is very useful for moving the different transforms around. Yes, you can do this manually also by
placing your mouse over the individual triangle and clicking and dragging, but by using the directional arrows you get
more precise movement and you can back track easier if you don't like what you did.
I don't use the "transform" tab much myself except to occasionally vary the weight of a transform. The higher the
number the more the individual transform will effect the over all fractal.
