Creating a Book Cover
Author and Artist Communication
If the artist is not able to read the book prior to creating the book cover, it is extremely important for the author to communicate WHO the audience is, WHAT the subject matter of the book is so that the artist can figure out what single image will capture the main idea.
Initial Sketch
The author should approve an initial sketch of the illustration prior to coloring or painting the image, to avoid redoing too much work
Inking the image
After discussing the sketch, the author should point out any changes with the initial sketch. Subsequently, the artist should submit a final draft of the drawing prior to adding color or text.
Color
Once the drawing is agreed upon, tha color is added. Color and presentation are as important as line when dealing with commercial print material.
Pre-press
Adding typography and title is another very important step in the marketing process.
