Posted 3 months ago This is Bridgette speaking for Dennis (Xanquador). I have a bachelors in business administration and as a business major, since this site is directly affiliated with monster.com, I do not feel that putting a ceiling on artists creativity, whether it be a nude or not, should be tolerated. If this is the case, monster.com should and will be notified. Also, I am now collaborating with Dennis' brother who is a computer web designer to make an authentic art porfolio website that will NOT allow amateurs nor children onto the website. There will be no limits to your creativity and I will do everything in my power to make sure the affiliates to the website are career oriented. Here is a recent message to Valerie in regards to my finding other AB questionable material. If these art pieces are not deleted as well, I promise you this will not be tolerated.
Hello Valerie, I have recieved many many many comments on how my art work did not show genitalia nor was it offensive except to two people who are too close minded to be in the art community anyway. I did however give you my word on finding ALL lewd and questionable material and with the help of a friend, I did. So now I want their work to be deleted. Gee Valerie, you might have to delete 3/4 of the work on AB. This might cause a problem with most of your regulars. What do you think should be done?

I really don't think it's a great idea to go after other artists work in defense of yours... it then turns into a witch hunt and dilutes the original argument 222 journalists and media assistants have been killed in Iraq since March of 2003... more than World Wars 1 & 2, Korea & Vietnam combined. |

Why can't we get our own section here at AB with age restrictions and verification, It would sure make life easier for those of us with tons of images already here. |

| Posted 3 months ago ArtBistro has its own rules..we all agreed to them by joining this website. I think we should show some respect to Valerie and whoever runs this place. We're all artists..we know what a nude is, but there are plenty of kids surfing. Explicit nudes should be posted on personal websites, if not some kind of restrictions...I'm sorry for not suporting those who have posted artwork with nudes involved....I'm not against art, but we should consider other aspects too and stop seing only our interests. |

I am having a hard time understanding why certain people are targeted while others are not. This is my point. As far as having respect for Valerie, I have done nothing but show the utmost respect to Valerie, however I did not join this site to show reverence to anyone. I came on this site and shared my work in hopes to network with other talented artists. All I see on this site is drama, censorship and cliches. It has become more of a myspace site than an artistic site. Without having to repeat myself, if in fact this site is not for professional and upcoming artists, then it should not have any affiliation with monster.com or any employment sites. I am usually a nice and kind guy but when it comes to my work, I take it very seriously. |

I propose for Valerie, if shi have a possibly to create a spetial web place in this site for a Nude Artists. Whit beforehand mark for adult only! I thing the real Art is without limit to be in everything !!! So Valerie, give him chance to show as his ART! Thank you and... good luck! |

| Posted 3 months ago wasn't it justice harlan who said he couldn't define obscenity but he knew it when he saw it? is the work exhibited on art bistro to be screened by those among us who have the greatest sensitivity to what they perceive as "inappropriate?" that's a slippery slope and an approach that truly cannot be tolerated. as i've mentioned elsewhere, it should be a relatively simple matter to verify that membership is limited to adults. and as to those adults with tender sensibilities, please, do not view art you find offensive if it is more than you can bare. ;-) |

Wouldn't it be more efficient/profitable/simple to ban these 2 people? 2 against thousands and that's enough to trigger endless debates, posts, raging? What happened to "The Art of War"? War (against censorship, for example), is won with numbers; why not get rid of the uptight uh..(what is that other word for rectum?) and go on with our merry artistic life? I am quite sure monster.com will not mind and neither will most of us.... Let's vote on it, and for once, apply the democratic process instead of being controlled by an uptight minority (yes, 2 members in this site IS a minority) |

| Posted 3 months ago I'm against all censorship except that which protects my own values of decency and I'm the only one that can invoke that. No-one else can sensor things for me. Especially when I'm experiencing whatever it is in a private situation. If I don't like it, I can decide to stop doing, turn it off, stop viewing, close the window or not listen to the offensive piece. My choice. In public its a different matter. I wouldn't want a billboard advertisement's standard to be as way out as mine because I wouldn't want to offend anybody else that is a shade more conservative than me. If there is a separate area for artistic nudes or nude photography or bondage thats fine. You know what you're gonna get when you get there. Personally, I'm offended by extreme public art like Gilbert and George's poos (not the dicks or nudity). But thats just me. Obviously a load of people dig it. Being offended by it, or not, doesn't make it right or wrong. Aren't the most sickening images that of man's inhumanity? Now if you really want to stop something... "I leave when the pub closes." | Posted 3 months ago I'm against censorship but don't want to go to war over it. It's all about tolerance, after all. If you entered a country where winking was considered offensive, would you go out of your way to wink at every inhabitant you saw? For artists to consider nudity offensive, especially for those trained in life drawing classes, may seem just as ludicrous as winking, but we know it offends some. We keep the door closed while the model is posing so uninvited passers by don't get an eye full. This is a vexing problem for the internet, where such control is nearly impossible. I agree that nudity is art and even sensuality is art, but there is such a thing as pornography with no redeeming social value. It too is all oven the internet on sites devoted to showing it. Freedom of speech requires tolerance- but I feel true pornography should be kept separate from true art. I don't envy those who have this job of deciding what particular image is "art" and which is "pornography." (Think of Sally Mann's photos of her adolescent children. Even though they are unquestionably art, the images offend some people anyway.) It's easier to complain about the police than to be a policeman. All we can hope is that artists try to be sensitive to others with the images and activities they are promoting- but sometimes raw truths and even shock can be part of an artist's statement. Although my stuff isn't that extreme, I didn't want to cause any trouble but at the same time I don't want any of my work to be censored or removed just because some prudes are offended by what they perceive as immoral and sexist. |

| Posted 3 months ago The reality is that you do not own ArtBistro.and that said-as a free site-its their right to decide what is displayed and what is not. And setting up your new site-you are already saying you will censor a variety aof artists-allowing only adults onto your site is censorship.... You are using someone elses site- so-have a bit of respect for what they have to say. Its like spending the night at a friends house and saying I dont like what you have on TV- So change the channel!! There will always be censorship-its a fact of humanity. Best of luck in developing your new site-but why huff and puff trying to blow the house down just in spite?? |

| Posted 3 months ago I am not going to ramble on, but just feel that censorship should be the responsibility of the viewer. If it bothers you DON'T LOOK, if the viewers are underage... where are the parents and censorship places limits on the creativity process. This is not directed at anyone but, I feel parents should try parenting and don't use the internet as a baby sitter.. place blocks to keep children away from "offensive" material. Other than "offensive art", there are far more dangerous situations lurking on the internet... doesn't that alarm you to not let children surf aimlessly? It is so shocking to find such drama over censorship with an artistic community and I am puzzled. It seems as though this is becoming a growing concern and find it truly bothersome. This is not to add to the drama, but to express myself regarding this situation. |

I am sure she has her responsibilities as well and it can not be an easy job. I feel that the problem lies within the viewers of the community who place these request upon her. |

| Posted 3 months ago This post is turning to the worse... Too bad! It seems to me that pretty much everybody has a point, yes, Transfarmer too! (BTW, I consider your writing talent, Trans, no doubt!!). 1)There has been debate on comments (be nice/ tell the truth, say nothing, etc) which is a form of censorship as well.. 2) There are more people in AB trying to be right than there are people trying to be kind/helpful/etc. In fact, being an artist does not make us the torch carriers of the universal truth; maybe it is human nature to be annoying to each others! 3) I like the idea of a private folder, but I do prefer the "what happened to parenting?) post; if we regulate everything for the very few, soon, there will be no art left at all!1 Sure, we agreed with the policy of the site, no question, but censorship on the request of one or two members is a bit to drastic for my taste.... 4) I do not believe that there will be a solution to this any time soon, my friends; keep being true to your work, and, if you offend someone, do not change what you do, just deprive the offended of you future creations.... |

But then again, I did take my teenager to the Warhol Museum here in Pittsburgh ... what do you know, I prepared her for the questionable nature of some modern art and to be aware that there was an 8 foot tall painting of a limp penis on the wall... it's called parenting, she understood, that some art though crude or something I personally wouldn't hang in my livingroom... can still be funny or thought provoking, maybe beautiful (your nudes Marcel, magnifique! :) more likely candidates for the Carnegie Museum of Fine Art than the Warhol.... but whatever. They don't card you or your children when you go in the museum.... or shudder and exchange hushed whispers "OMG, I don't believe they brought a toddler in here!" There is no horror shock and awe from the babes as they point at the "boobies" and "peepees" in the hall of sculpture, maybe a few giggles, but it's how we are all made people. No secret there... especially not from modern teens.

I wonder what the flag of Genitalia looks like, though...
