Top 7 70's Band
Posted about 1 year ago This is the last one of these but I had to do it. The 70's are well known for Disco, power ballads, and all around cheese, but some of the greatest albums ever recorded also came from this era. Bands that influenced and inspired generations of music.
1. Bob Marley and the Wailers- The Wailers alone still kick ass today. Combining the socially conscious music of the 60's and Jamaican Ska to make a new genre. 2. Pink Floyd- Argueably one of the best/most influencial bands ever. 3,4. Black Sabbath & Led Zepplin- Taking the blues to a new level. Poster children of hard rock to metal. 5. Fleetwood Mac- 6. The Ramones- The posterchildren for punk. 7. The Meters- Some of the greatest funk players of all time. |

| Posted 10 months ago One of the greatest all time selling albums of the 70's is Boston's "Boston" Album and "Don't Look Back.' Not one of my favorite bands of the time, but you can't deny them as being one of the biggest deals in the late 70's. |

| Posted 8 months ago Hmm, we ARE talking about the 1970s. It's true that Joplin, Hendrix, and the Beatles each lasted a few months into the year 1970, Jim Morrison a few months longer, but they're not really for here. Same with the Airplane, with Balin leaving in early 1971 and Grace Slick injured that year. (Their great album, of course, was 1967.) Cream's last album was released in 1969 after the band had broken up. And so on. I could argue that the 1970s was the decade of singers and songwriters, like Joni Mitchell or Tom Waits. There's a Bonny Raitt album from those years I love, too, especially Eric Kaz's song "Love Has No Pride." For groups, I'd want to single out the Band and the early Allman Brothers. There's some exotic imports I loved, like Pentangle. There's the art rock, but honestly the bloated stuff I used to like from that decade like Pink Floyd has lost any appeal to me, and I even have trouble with the Moody Blues stylings in Arcade Fire now (but Yes was ok). Then there's the explosion of pun rock with Television, Talking Heads, and the Patti Smith group. |

| Posted 4 months ago I am a lover of the "old" stuff too but if you really believe there is not any good music being made these days, I will have to dis agree! It may not be on the top of the charts but I could give you a list of new music that would be enjoyed by anybody who was a fan of the 70's. Jon Butler Trio, Grace Potter and the Noturnals for some rockin! Tristen Prettyman, Jack Johnson for some singer/song writer stuff Dr. Dog, G-Love and special sauce for new Philly funk Sorry to post these in this topic but I just want to shine some light! Bill
