i'd suggest doing a web search...there are a ton of online photoshop tutorials.  as for equipment i buy most of my gear from www.adorama.com and www.bhphotovideo.com .... they are both reputable and have good prices.   if you want inexpensive studio lighting check out www.alienbess.com

i'd look at www.adorama.com for studio backdrops...they have some that are fairly inexpensive.  i use a lot of seamless paper backdrops cause they're cheap and come in lots of colors.  you can also use gels to color a background.

there are lots of online galleries where you can post your work...just search through them and find one that you like.

if you're really serious maybe go to photo school or take some night classes.  some people don't believe that you need to go to school, but keep in mind it will take you longer to learn everything on your own... so if your time is valued then consider classes.

Thanks! That Adorama website is going to be my best friend! Have you purchased any used lenses or equipment from them? Is there delivery service any good and are they reliable?   Thanks again!

delivery is through ups or fedex...usually it's fine.  i've never bought any used equipment from them cause it's usually more expensive buying used through a big place like that.  i've bought all my used gear from ebay or through people that i know... check out ebay and research the prices (new and compare to other used) to make sure you don't get screwed... and don't get caught up in a bidding war.
