Step1

Decide on a location. A personal fine art studio can be anywhere and any size. Depending on your needs and budget, decide if you could rent a space or satisfy your needs by designating an area of your house. All that's needed is a little privacy and quiet.

Step2

Select an area for work storage. You'll need a place for all those drawings you plan to do and the ones you already have. Allow enough space for your finished pieces and be sure to protect them from sunlight, cats and other things that can ruin a beautiful piece of art.

Step3

Designate a drawing table and places for all your materials nearby. Artists need everything within easy reach for those moments of brilliance. Put any reference materials in a handy place, perhaps on a nearby shelf or reserve a bookcase for them.

Step4

Set up a staging area in your personal fine art studio. Even if you only occasionally draw from life, having space for a model or still life is a must. This area should be fairly comfortable, such as a couch or chair, and well lit.

Step5

Decide on a place to clean up. You'll need somewhere to wash your hands, rinse brushes and scrub the graphite from your arms. Depending on the materials you use, the sink may need a filter covering the drain so that it does not clog.
