Pricing help!

Posted 2 months ago Hello Fellow Photographers
I need some help on pricing. I am freelancing and I am getting most of my experience through family and friends weddings and their childs portraits. I've done a very close friend's (almost sister) wedding. She had a big fancy wedding and and reception and I did everything including bridal shots for $800. I was not focused on making any money because this was a good chance to get my start and get some experience. Even though I was not focused on money I made the mistake of saying that was including prints. Long story short I'm not good at making up a price. Another friend of mine just asked me to take pictures at her reception only 5-8pm medium size party. I am also going to take bridal shots. Again I am not looking to make alot of money becuase A. She is one of my closest friends and I don't want to charge her out the A** and 2. I am still learning to do weddings/receptions so I do not want to over charge. The price I was thinking is $400 for everything not including prints. Please lend thoughts and suggestions!

I don't do weddings but know photographers that do and after hearing their stories... I'd rather be back in Iraq photographing firefights. That being said, check out this link... http://www.wednet.com/articles/HowMuchShouldYouSpendOnWeddingPhotography.aspx sometimes it's not what you should charge but more what they will spend and a lot of the time what "they will spend" is predicated on what "they" have read. Adding this link to your website will give your perspective clients a little education and will make that price negotiation down the road a little easier for all parties involved.
217 journalists and media assistants have been killed in Iraq since March of 2003... more than World Wars 1 & 2, Korea & Vietnam combined. |

| Posted about 1 month ago What I do, is First Price out your worth... (How much you think you are worth to spend a day photographing someone else's life.) Then take into mind HOW much everything will cost, how are the client going to view the images to "pic" them out... also if they want an album. Then add all the costs together then times that amount by 2.5 and that will give you a working cost. and enough to pay yourself something. remember alot of wedding photography is post production, thats YOUR time, editing, fixing, and printing images.
The other thing to do, becuase this is your friend. Charge the $400.00 for the day, a retainer fee to keep that day for them, than figure out if you are doing proofs for them or what ever else they want, and only charge them cost (what you have to pay)
I hoped I helped... |
