Why are there some many groups on this site that do absloutely nothing?  What is it a points thing or something?

It's all about the points.  Even though the points don't matter.

I wish my group was active.  It was more fun in the public but apparently doesnt meet public status.  :(    "Double Meanings"

Been trying to get it going, but its probably because all of the other useless groups out there.

I started my group mainly to let my friends here at AB know when I have a new piece for them to look and shake their heads at.  Any further topics or "being active" is secondary.  I started it b/c BEFORE I was using other people's groups and it didn't seem right to me even though they said "go ahead."  Now when I have a new one to flash at everyone I use my group and a couple of others and that's it.  No one needs to be bombarded with 12 different messages saying the same thing...

I don't think you get much in the way of points for creating a group. If a group is inactive, perhaps the group moderator should post topics of interest and comment on them to get things going. If its not active after 3 or 4 months, perhaps artbistro should drop it after bringing up the matter to the person who originated it. It used to be easier to see what the group was about by clicking on thier name if you saw it on the forum.

I do see people abusing the groups by sending out group emails to announce one new piece, or new work a couple of times a week-I think this is overkill. Like JHWart mentions, you might want to hold it down to a couple of groups. At this point I might have to drop groups, because my email is getting clogged up with viewing requests.

Some new members are sending me emails through groups saying it would take too long to get friends, so they want me to add them. What happened to looking and commenting on a persons work, then making a friends request? It takes longer-but isn't feedback important?

I find often that a persons asks for feedback through group email or in the forum, you comment, then never hear from them again. No thanks, much less that they comment on your work as well. I tend avoid those people in the future. I also tend to avoid people who rate with out comments. That is not helpful, and leads to abuse.

These issues have been raised before in several threads on the forum.

To avoid clogging up the forum, this might be an option for viewing requests. I try to look at peoples work from there:

There is also the feedback group for people who are willing to get email requests for viewing:
