I've grown to hate the "Watch This Thread" feature, as it leaves the forums page dominated by the same few threads, which mostly stopped growing and I'm no longer interested in.  On top of that, I mostly found I fell into having them marked as watched by accident, because it was the default when I posted. Is there no way to "unwatch" a thread?  It's annoying, I think.

I've mixed feelings, in fact, about first seeing threads to which I've contributed rather than new ones, but I'll defer to others. What I'd most want is for one to be able to jump to the end of a thread or, much better still, to the first contribution since the last one I saw. Right now, we go back to the top, sometimes with multiple pages to come, and have to try to find our place. But I suppose that's a much more ambitious interface request.

P.S. I see I have found myself watching this, too, by mistake!

Or if you go to the Preferences tab you can go to the bottom of the page and stop watching all unwanted topics at once. :)

I'm not too fond of that feature myself, but learned quickly of the stop watching option...also, just below and to the left of the window where you type your post, there is a small box with a check mark in it, you can un check it if you dont want to watch, so as annoying as it is, they've given us 3 ways to get around it. How thoughtful.

Thanks.  I was looking for those options.  Sorry I didn't find them on my own.

Aww, forget it jhaber! As much help as you offer on the technical aspects of the site... honestly, it's comforting to some of us to know you're not omniscient.

But speaking of that, how far do you get on freerice.com? I can only get to level 50 so far... looking for someone who can take level 55. No cash prize to offer, just wondering if I can find someone who can do it. :) If you never heard of it, it is a vocabulary game on the UN hunger site, for every correct answer you get a corporate sponsor donates cash for 20 grains of rice... yeah, I know there are about 25,000 grains in a pound of rice, but it's fun too. Well if you're a geek like me anyway.

I haven't seen it (or indeed hadn't actually heard of it).  Thanks for mentioning, and I'm relieved you don't have to eat a bag of rice personally for each question you answer.  I'll look when I can. Lousy week.

I did it for several minutes and got only to 50, too.

Hmmm, I thought you were a sure bet.... I played off and on one day, just left the window open, gave away 20,000 grains of rice and  never got beyond 50, kept bumping back and forth between 48-50.  I'd get a couple at 50 and start watching the level... and then they threw the  really wild, what the heck is that? words  at me.  Good thing a geek like me thinks such stuff is fun... I mean, fiddling around here and there clicking on 1000 definitions for less than 1 pound of rice? Yeah, there's  time  well  spent LOL. :) Perhaps I should have just written them a check?

Maybe I should have stuck at it longer, but same experince for me.  I could get to 45, say, by words I knew, then further by thinking through etymologies and cognates with, say, French.  But since they're just guesses, and since I found eventually that some of those words aren't even in my unabridged, it's not your typical vocabulary test.  More like those spelling bees where the words are deliberately ones you won't have seen before.
