The war on touching

Posted 7 days ago Popular cultrure often tells us what we cant touch! It feels like there is a war on one of my favorite five senses! Truely, culture attempts to filter the human experience. The result, uniform bodily impulses. I see this as a way in which the status quo enforces conformity in mass society. what are some of the many things culture tells us not to touch? Don't touch the grass! Don't touch women! Don't touch yourself! Please add to the list if anyting comes to mind! |

| Posted 7 days ago I teach kids (and adults). One thing that was drilled into us when I was getting a credential was not to touch them. Not even a hand on the shoulder if you were leaning over to look at their work. I still teach part time, and this is ingrained. Sometimes a little kid comes up to give me an unexpected hug after a class where they are excited about what they have done and I flinch. Its unfortunate, but thats the way it is. Teachers did not have that problem 30 years ago (my Dad was a teacher). |
