Try a group project first. Bring in every single thing you can think of; lay it on the floor & start having your students pick up 1 item at a time and play "Add-On". Everybody gets 1 turn to add something on until the piece is complety covered or until your group is satisfied with the results.

I've been teaching  three dimensional  design  to teens for several months.  No matter what the materials, they come up with very

interesting  results.  It is interesting to me that  certain of my students come up with far more creative ideas then the others.

When they all come from the same family, it is really obvious that talent strikes oinly the few!

The parents  make a big difference, but there is something else inside that person that determines  creativity.

Suggest they take on a current event topic.  I began mixing media out of necessity to express a subject. Encourage them to find objects, articles and photos related to the subject.  Have them use objects that express the topic.

Discuss Assemblages and show examples.

Good luck let us know how it goes and what you end up doing.

Kinda like that !  I find that some students are far greedier  for supplies than others. One said " I haven't taken all those sized pieces,;just most" lol!

I tried this and it worked pretty well.. it's just ver had getting them to go beyond just pasting things together... I want them to create an original image using collage and other materials....
