Members have contributed perhaps thousands of articles that can quickly become buried by others. Do you have any favorites that you would recommend? Please do not recommend your own. Leave a link to it with your comment so we can view it easily. Perhaps the link from the artbistro news page. Thanks.

Here is a link to a similar topic about member videos: http://www.artbistro.com/topics/3683-members-video-recommendations/posts

I will try to report any links that are no longer up. That happens over time with some articles. If I miss something feel free to email me and I will make a note. Otherwise they should be able to be viewed. I will keep them on the page so people can get an idea of the varied topics that have been submitted.

It is interesting to be able to look at a painters palette. The chance to see their studio is even more exciting. This is about the preservation of Klimt's studio. It does not have easily seen examples of his work, but they are easy to find in books or the internet. Thanks twingoatsinc; this was submitted a few months ago.

Sorry on a recent check I saw the article has expired - can't be viewed (as of August).

Comic Book Originals Break Into Art Market

Bluestar submitted this over a month ago. The article reconfirms what I have known for a long time, the best comic book work is an art form like any other media. The comic strip was invented in America, and comic books have been valued here for some time. This short piece has a European slant on the topic. Some original work is going for over $250,000. You can't  judge art by its price, but it does show comic book art (or EB) is being taken seriously. Moebius and Herge are a couple of the artists who are mentioned.

( sorry this article cannot be viewed as of August )

Thanks bluestar. Does anyone have past articles from the members news section they would like to post? Or comments on what they saw?

Photographer Harry Benson Makes Stars Shine

Stan shared this short article about a month ago. Benson shares some tips about working with celebrites. Some of his images I can bring to mind immediately, like the Beatles pillow fight, and the picture of an assassinated Robert Kennedy. It makes me want to look at more of his work. Thanks Stan.

 Teaching Students to Critique

Bluestar submitted this article 3 months ago. This short piece covers some of the basic elements of art critique. There has been questions of style of critique on a friends group, and threads about leaving comments about peoples work on the site. Maybe this will help give people ideas. Also a good refresher for people with a lot of critique experience. Thanks bluestar.

 Taking A Shot

An article about celebrity Photographer Ken Sax. This was submitted by TransFarmer about 9 days ago. A relatively recent article compared to those above, but already pretty buried.

Interesting background info on how he started, plus the fact that he knows the tech side of photography. The article includes a link to his website, which is a nice added bonus.

There are many news and video submissions that are worth taking a look at. These may be underused sections of artbistro.

 How to spot a Banksy

"A mural by graffiti artist Banksy has sold for more than £200,000 on eBay. But with so many imitations out there, how can you distinguish the real from the fake?"

This was submitted about 5 months ago by Janice. Some good links on a Banksy image to help determine fake vrs. genuine. There has been discussion in the forum about Banksy and  other articles as well. Thanks Janice. Here is a link:

Staying Creative with Tips from a Cartoonist

"Imagine churning out idea after idea, seven days a week, always using the same style and characters. How would you stay fresh and invigorated? Cartoonist John Kovaleski can teach us a thing or two about that."

This was a helpful article submitted by Anika about 3 months ago. The hardest thing about cartooning (and storyboards) for me is coming up with ideas. Usually when I pick an article, if it involves an artist I prerfer images to be included. This article is so strong though, I decided to post it again. I like his reference to early "B.C." If you want to see Kovaleski's work you can Google him.

Best wishes Anika. Here is the link:

About 1/3 of the articles posted in the last 9 months have been posted in the last month. They are getting buried quicker than ever. Does anyone else have any articles by other members of artbistro hey would like to submit here? I think news may be an under used resource.

I found this online blog with some interesting info on how artists get noticed in today's market. I posted it in the news as well but I am sure it will get lost in the multitude of news submissions.  www.artbistro.com/news/6098-how-artists-can-get-noticed-now-update-6

Thank you Mason. I thought it was a good article.

Thanks ejcawth. I was encouraging people to submit articles from others -but I'm glad you put it in. It  looks like a good resource. The news section is controlled by a few people at this point. Why bother to research and submit if it gets buried by a couple of other peoples massive submissions? I've commented on that in the past, but I think I come off as sour grapes.

For more on this I refer to this thread. Things have only gotten worse with the recent point change:

An overlooked article submitted by jennierrenee about Bernie Mac

Actor, comedian and exasperated dad Mac dies at 50

http://www.artbistro.com/news/6307-actor-comedian-and-exasperated-dad-mac-dies-at-50-

Normally I don't post articles that are this recent, but I did not see any comment on the forum, unlike when George Carlin died (who I loved and saw in person in performances). The piece was quickly buried. I thought it was worth noting. I enjoyed the Bernie Mac show (that is an understatement) and his body of work.

Comments I made about the control of the news section on artbistro by a few still holds.

 Telling Dreams-Vietnamese-American artist Binh Pho

Article with pictures about an artist who works with wood. I have some friends that do turned wood and piercing, wonderful pieces, but the use of color in his work takes it to another level. There is also a link to more images (not sure if it will connect to his work after Aug. 30).

 In Pictures: Oscar Niemeyer

A slide show of his work with extensive commentary. Niemeyer is Brazil's best know architect, perhaps best recognized by his work on Brasilia, the nations capitol. Interesting overview.

Submitted by Janice about 9 months ago. Thanks

Many articles I look at have links to slide shows or other links to related information.

I was just thinking about this, as much as we disliked the start rating system, and inherit abuse of it, something similar or the simple thumbs up or down should apply to news articles submitted and videos and such, they get points for how many times it's read, NOT just because they posted 497,932,988 articles, should would take the winds out of some sails around here.

Oh and another thought, maybe have the option of receiving 2 points to responding to a thread up to the individual, we could accept it, or kindly refuse the 2 points. Just a thought........

Interesting observation Regnadkicn. I think people do get credit if they comment/rate on an article. I still don't like it if a couple of people can control the news at certain points. It discourages others from submitting as I and others have commented on in the past. Apparently these people are oblivious or do not care. But I would like this thread to focus on good articles that are worth taking another look at. Feel free to contribute. I seem to be a one person shop right now.

I think we (Art Bistro) are in a transitional period, many changes recently. Admin is overwhelmed I am sure with all the requests and complaints. I hope, in due time, things will smooth out.

Remembering Alton Kelley

Although I prefer articles with slide show and or images, I thought this was well worth bringing up again.

"Alton Kelley, whose psychedelic concert posters for artists like the Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, and Big Brother and the Holding Company helped define the visual style of the 1960s counterculture, died on Sunday at his home in Petaluma, Calif. He was 67."

A slide show that includes good information and images submitted by ejcawth about 3 months ago. Classic work-should be recognized by many. If you don't know him take a look-if you do, take a look.

The Exact Science of Paper Art

bluestar submitted this 11 months ago. Stunning cut paper art with amusing links that still work (Bush for example). The art is by Jen Stark.
