Posted 4 months ago Thanks! What ages are your kids? I have two boys, Graham (9) and Aaron (7) who has autism...Got my hands full...add two little dogs into the mix and it's pretty much a Nanny 911 nightmare...My wife works outside teaching at a college, so I get to live the dream and freelance between finding the Playstation 2 save card and figuring out why the DVD remote isn't working right...Plus, ya gotta feed them, keep them from jumping off the air hockey table and other fun stuff like that...

Posted 4 months ago albatoledo66 said: Is it true about what they say about raising girl teens versus your boy? They always told me that girls are easier when they are younger, but the teen years are really challenging...Boys are supposed to be the opposite...I think it's a myth... Yeah, it's a fun addiction though...Like chocolate or pistachios in the shell (Pre-shelled is cheating).

Posted 4 months ago Hi, yep me, two kids, age 14 and 9 and their pets to account for (1 chinchilla, 1hamster, 1 fish) Highschool and elementary school, everything from college visits to baseball and cubscouts. Photographer husband with new studio under construction.... I am the Czarina of this small but very important (atleast to me 8-D) empire of Jones. LOL! Oh look, there are points all over the ground! They must be worth a lot if they are so easy to pick up. ;-)

Posted 4 months ago Well as for me I just turned 50. I have one daughter who just turned 21. Goes to college at night and work's full time. Very Proud mom. I do my graphic's at home and illustrate. Juggling between my 2 job's working at a plant nursery in the spring, and 4 month's in the winter at apple hill, (wine country) in Pacerville CA. Both are seasonal job's.

Posted 4 months ago You actually put them back in their cases? Silly boys. Stack 'em up their in the rack or pile, cheerfully of course. Finding them? THEIR problem... if they had put them away, they would know where they are. Let THEM sort through the stack, while you have another cup o'joe. :) Oh look, there are points all over the ground! They must be worth a lot if they are so easy to pick up. ;-)

| Posted 4 months ago close to 50 something mom, one boy 21, one 15 with autism also, i worked more when they were little oddly enough, use to set them in a playpen behind me while painting, then as they grew included them with me, they had their very own little drawing board next to mine....to this day they love to draw and are very good at it.....kids love to be included no matter what you are doing and they should be......i think that's how they form their personalities and learn....

Posted 4 months ago You're all great! Keep up the good work. Listen to Janice, boys. She knows whereof she speaks. Teach responsibility now or you will still be picking up after them when they go to college. I'm 72, raised mine and still helping with grandkids, and now one of mine is helping with us. Art, particularly pottery, is still a strong force with us. We dig some of our own clay here in Northern Idaho. Makes gorgeous terra cotta.

Posted 3 months ago I too fall into the 40 something artist moms. Actually the pendulum is leaning towards the 50 something. I have 2 girls 11 & 5. I find it very difficult to carve out time for ME to paint. Lately, I have been home for 3 weeks straight between spring vacation from school & then my little one had her tonsils & adenoids out 2 weeks ago. All I want to do is go back into my studio. I want to paint so bad, I can taste the linseed oil :). Maybe Alba we can move this string & start our own group, of course blakkwolfe you are invited. Glad to find all of you.

Posted 3 months ago I'm a 45 year old mom with Jacob-10 (soon 11) and Jessica-6. Both love to paint and draw, though they want to be at my level already and still have a ways to go yet. My husband is like a 3rd kid, sometimes I pick up after him more than the kids! I'm posting a portfolio of Jacob's paintings soon. He experienced his first "show rejection" last week when the school's student art teacher held a schoolwide show (everything was pretty much the same at every level) but didn't include something from each student for a first show experience. I thought they should have included 1 piece for everyone since it is public elementary level and the kids don't yet have an understanding of exhibitions. The whole competition thing bugs me at this level. I don't like Little League, etc. either. We do the cub scout/brownies thing which is more community oriented and more working together for a common goal and individuality with responsibility. Any thoughts anyone? Jacob justs wants someone other than me to see his paintings, so stop by and leave a comment or 2 for him. Thanks!

Posted 3 months ago Geez, Joren. You are right. That soooo stinks! I chair our public elementary school's art show, the teacher tries to make sure that 2-3 pieces of each kids work is selected to hang. I mean we cover that Elementary School, about 1800 pieces in the show. But wow, the kids and parents love it. Sometimes they are overwhelmed and don't look at everything... but of course they go see their dear ones stuff, but it is so affirming for the kids. I tell you, picking out their best two or three pieces, it is inspirational for me to see what they can produce! Absolutely blows me away. Little League can be great, or it can be truly awful. My community is lucky to have a good one, but my son is a Scout too. Can't beat the values and skills a good scouting program can offer. My daughter couldn't stay in scouts because the program kept disintegrating around her. Third time she said forget it. Unfortunate that Girl Scouts don't have the organizational system of the Pack to fall back on like Cub Scouts does. It allows for smoother transitions of leadership and stronger units etc. Let us know when you post Jacob's stuff. :) Oh look, there are points all over the ground! They must be worth a lot if they are so easy to pick up. ;-)

Posted 3 months ago Joren I have taught k-adult art in the schools. The teacher was very much in the wrong. At the elementary level, all student work should be displayed. It shows their work is valued. Sometimes a few older students, who tend to be harder on themselves, would throw work away. I would retreive it and give it back to them the next time I saw them. I said you don't throw away art from my class, and gave positive comments. Again, I wanted them to think their work was valued. What they did later with it was up to them, but they don't discard art in my sight.

Posted 2 months ago I am a 40 something mom, at least until July! I left my job almost a year ago. Ran an art center and the center ran my life. So many hours away from my family and absolutely no time to be in the studio creating my own art. My youngest, who will be 10 this month hardly ever saw me. I had to enroll him in art classes at the center to see him! Daughter just graduated college and I realized how little of her "growing up" I was there for. I guess almost 50 gives you more perspective. Still have not enough time for my art, but I've decided family first is my new priority. I really love having a more flexible schedule and the time (while Allen's in school) to get out the paints.
