I would recommend that you store images of your work on CD's instead. Everything is going to be computers and digital. Besides, you can't email slides of your work to a prospective employer and you can from a CD. Dennis

You can get paintings, prints, t-shirts, and many other items with my artwork on them at:

so don't even bother with slides at all? I have my design work all stored in my small hard drive, and i was planning to burn them on cds that way i can back it up. I just always heard artists put their stuff on slides, I thought that was the professional way to do it. I was wondering about my drawings and other works I've made on non computer, do you think I should make slides for those at least, since I can't store them in computer. thanks

Shoot digital copywork of your pieces and voila, they are in your computer. Slides are an unnecessary and fairly worthless step. Fairly standard portfolio viewing options would be - CD, website, and a printed version for in person viewing, maybe a few printed pieces tucked in for hand viewing. Impression is everything... slides may be just a bit too retro :)

Oh look, there are points all over the ground! They must be worth a lot if they are so easy to pick up. ;-)

Remember, if you provide slides, you're assuming that the person you want to show them to will own a SLIDE PROJECTOR (or will you be bringing your own?) ... that's not a safe bet anymore. CD, website, and some printed pieces should be sufficient ...

I din't say you did it ... I said I was going to blame it on you.

I'm sure some designers will appreciate the Old School approach, but nowadays, emailing a jpeg is just as effective...Send out your .pdf portfolio by e-mail, CD, put them on the web or put them up here... To answer your question, though...Get some slide film for your 35mm camera, take your pictures, bring your film to a reputable photo store and they'll take it from there for you.

To me it seems strange to shoot slides of Graphic Design. It still makes sense for Fine Art Portfolios even though it is a little old fashioned. As a graphic designer is much more important to be able to show work online. Many times these days it is not even important to have a solid portfolio; only a virtual one is needed. That is not to say one should not have one ready, or at least the digital files ready to print at a given moment.
