depends on what you're after. "bridgman's anatomy" is a great old classic.

Burne Hogarth's Dynamic Anatomy - Expanded and revised. Also his Dynamic Figure Drawing book. Amazon sells them for about $15.00 a piece. Excellent books

Gray's Anatomy is a standard, so much that they made a TV show about it...

"Anatomy and physiology" is a huge undergraduate course, obviously required of premeds and others. The market leaders are the texts by Tortora, Martini, and Seeley, in no particular order as they change leadership with new editions and publication cycles. They're usually in both a brief edition (essentials) and larger book.

i agree with 'gekko'; artistic anatomy is different from, say, medical anatomy

Of course the classic Gray's Anatomy - BUT go to the BODIES exhibit (now in Pittsburgh - it's an awesome anatomy lesson) but live models teach you to draw what no book or illustration can.

"Burne Hogarth’s Dynamic Anatomy – Expanded and revised. Also his Dynamic Figure Drawing book. Amazon sells them for about $15.00 a piece. Excellent books"

EEK! Most people I know who learned anatomy with Hogarth books spend a lot of time trying to unlearn it later. Hogarth is okay, but he shouldn't be any-one's main source of info, imo.

I like George Bridgeman's books best, personally, but their not in-depth anatomy books.

"Anatomy for the Artist" is my personal figure drawing bible. It's an excellently done book, with tons of photos and drawings of all different parts and layers of the body, and a great deal of information as well.
