when stretching this canvas, it neither tears or frays. it has a great absorption rate and allows for clean spreading of gesso and the following layers of paint either oils or acrylics. it does not pull out of the staples or nails when one is finished stretching the material.
i used hobby lobby canvas too. i agree, its good enough for me.
Texture is good, quality fine - these are easy to obtain and inexpensive, but work well.
Grainy texture, cheap material. You can find better. Try looking at art supply warehouse online.
I like Utrecht's canvas, and they have a variety of weights and textures.
I use this product all the time. I know there is better out there and that I could stretch my own, but frankly, I am an artist, which means I have no money. Decent product, decent price, easily accessible.
Pre-made canvases have improved over the last 10 years. But I sometimes like working on rough canvas which is hard to find on pre-made. So I still often stretch my own. Awning shops sometimes provide this for me. Just talking about canvas in general.
This product is not bad if you are in a pinch to do some quick work and do not have the time to self-stretch your own canvas. They had a variety of sizes.
I use these canvases all the time...love 'em.
