| Description: | Art & Culture Magazine |
Cool Magazine that prodominantly features hip illustration and avant garde art. It is definatley worth a look. It proclaims itself to be an "Art and Culture" magazine but leans more towards deviant art and counter culture. The only reason I do not give it five stars is I cannot have this magazine in my house with a child running around: Some of the art has questionable taste and can be border line, if not overtly, pornographic. That being said there is great art and illustraion to be seen in this magazine.
I used to buy this magazine but find it increasingly too esoteric and cliquish. Some of the art is very good and mind expanding, but a lot was plain junk being presented as avant garde. They also need to expand their marketing products, eg tee shirts that border on Nazi symbolization...bottom line is I got turned off.
this is actually the first art mag that I bought, along with "Overspray," "Art In America," and some other one. I really like this mag because it has ads in it for different galleries showing in every major city. Also, Im just drawn to the style of art that they portray.
One of my friends turned me on to this magazine a while ago. I really enjoy the broad spectrum that they cover from hotel walls to new toy lines. I find mydelf leafing through this magazine when I feel like I need a little push to better my skills. They really do showcase some amazing artists.
While not the old 'lowbrow' magazine it used to be, Juxtapoz seems to be evolving into more of a New American Paintings type of mag. The quality of artists can range, and I can be rather disappointed in some of the Artist Statements that accompany the work.
If you want a good kick to your creativity to get it going, then I recommend this mag.
My firm ran ads that we designed in this magazine, so they started sending them to us and the creative dept. always got a couple extra copies. This is an amazing magazine to get the juices flowing, and many of the pieces from different issues I've torn out and are now on my "inspiration wall" in my studio. There is just alot of interesting, thought-provoking stuff in Jux. It's always a good day in the office when new issues come in!
I love this magazine's visuals and the in depth stories on emerging underground artists, but there are waaaaayyy too many ads in it... I need more substance
Juxtapoz is cool. I was on juxtapoz.com :)
I agree with another who "read" this mag as I did: a little too A/G for me...those looking for shock/excitement..def pick an issue or two up-Hell! sub to it!! It is very NEW - New ART.
good source of design information, cutting edge graffic art can be found. creates a window to compare work at grander scale
they have urban art hey have fine art new trends and toys been a collector for quite sometime. It a must have..
