It has all the qualities of painting on a real canvas.
Best natural medium emulator out there and really well priced compared to other 2D programs. It could actually render natural media obsolete, although that's pure sacrilege speaking as an artist myself. I'm not saying you should replace your paint brush and canvas, nor would I want to, I'm just saying you could.
Just a newbie with it really but I love the control to add the personal touch to an drawing, photo or image.
i used this product for a few weeks, and its great but not my cup of tea for the time being. maybe later on in life i would like to really get into it. but still, a very cool product!
Haven't used but after seeing some of the work on here done with this program, I'm saving my poennies and going to get it. I'll post a review later once I try it out. Can't wait
The best alternative to natural media. Its so damn good in creating realistic natural media like oil, pastel, watercolor, goo and even sculputures with its range of tools and brushes. You can create your own strokes, pallete and use any kind of base like canvas, cartridge paper of variation in quality, clay, moist, wet etc.Though at first the interface might look cluttered but once you get the feel you can make the interface as per your convenience;its easy to customise every tool. And the results are awesome.Believe me;if you want to create a VanGogh pallete knife, throw cement, globs of paints or a very fine stippled art this digital tool is best alternative to natural and conventional medium.Highly recommended for all artists.
though its a bit tricky to learn [for me at least] its a wonderful tool for realistic touches to any piece
I was using Corel Painter 8 and have had some exposure to Painter IX and I would say that Painter X is by far the most advanced painting program on the market at this time. The Real Brushes are very nice and you get a good look to them. The only complaint that I had was that I have an older Wacom tablet so originally I wasn't able to get the full effect of some of the brushes.
The software itself it's a piece of art!
WOW amazing program, I am sooooo happy,. I love it...
this program is like photoshop, but it's easier to use.
I want to invite everyone to use it, if you decide to buy it is worth it!!
good luck...

Painter really has helped me learn how to paint. You can undo all your mistakes and you don’t even have to clean your brushes or sharpen your pencils! The technology implemented in painter allows the user to get a feel of the real life medium while allowing you to use as much paint as you want with out having to go out and buy more. This is the canvas of the future, I have no doubt in my mind.
Great product. I want to spend more time with it. Don't forget to have a Wacom tablet and stylus to fully utilize this product. Also, it's worth the trouble to actually go through some literature and make sure you know all the little shortcuts, etc. that make using all the features manageable. Otherwise, changing brushes, sizes, etc. will be a real pain. But just know, there are nice solutions to those headaches! :-)
Great, realistic "fine art" effects, if you can get over the weird image ghosts and stoke delays. Like all Corel products, the file formats take time to get used to.
This program is so cool. To truly appreciate the software you have to print on a high quality printer and paper. This program can actually mimic different mediums. Whether its acrylic, pastel, oil, water color, latex, crayon, graphite, etc. It actually looks just like the medium when printed. All without the mess. Great for fine art illustrators. And be careful, you will get lost and miss that appointment.
I just love this software and how you can create your own brushes to use or share. I have downloaded many brushes from some very talented people.
All I can say is WOW.
If you use traditional mediums and have ever wanted to try digital methods, you must try Painter. The recreation of 'analog' methods is incredibly faithful to the real thing.
I highly recommend to anyone who is a traditional painter to try painting (or drawing) with Painter and a Wacom tablet. It's awkward at first but, after awhile, you get use to looking at the screen and not your hand.
Painter is awesome. It has every art tool you can think of, and they all look and behave like the real thing. And, better. Because it's digital, the tools are really uber-tools. For example, you can sculpt and tint the paint at the same time, go heavy with oil or varnish, dry it instantly, and go again, go from water color to oil and back again... the possibilities are endless.
Use can create custom palettes in Painter to reflect your style. I use a traditional setup;-- pencils, pastels, crayons, artist oils and airbrush. In addition there are special effect tools and clone brushes. The latter are amazing. One is called The Sargent Brush. Just pick a color and your strokes look the old Singer himself.
amazing features. a huge set of highly customizable brushes.
one of my favorite tools.
