CMYK Magazine

What is CMYK Magazine?
Creative magazines are a dime a dozen, and there are far more than a dozen. All provide a little bit of inspiration here and there, but nothing can impact a student or aspiring creative like CMYK Magazine. Published every quarter, CMYK is the only magazine and online publication purely dedicated to the future creatives of Design, Advertising, Photography, and Illustration. Recent graduates, current students and hiring professionals alike are able to view hand-picked work from creative schools all over the world. With every publication, cream-of-the-crop judges are selected from within the commercial art fields.
Cover CMYK Magazine
The judges are experienced and forward-thinking, currently working and influencing their industry. While the magazine is where many agencies and talent seekers do their recruiting, the possibility of being published in this 70,000 circulation magazine is a career-defining reward. Scrupulously selected by the judges from thousands of entrants, as many as 100 selections from more than 80 students and recent grads are featured in every issue and delivered out into the hands of art buyers, recruiters, agency principals, and the creative directors of the world. This proven formula has been used for the last 12 years to constantly bridge the gap between creative professionals and emerging artists, letting many students and recent grads use CMYK as a loud speaker to communicate with the commercial art world.
“Timeless”
Aside from grabbing the attention of prospective employers for students, CMYK has built a reputation with its readers as a source for trends and how-to’s of the creative fields. This spring CMYK celebrated its 40th issue release, with article topics ranging from advertising and marketing in the eco-friendly age (Grass is Greener), to a helpful guide for obtaining your first production job aptly titled (Design Your First Job).
In Shaan Kirpalani’s industry trend report, Grass is Greener, it is made aware that thinking green has existed long before our climate change became an inconvenient truth. Shaan, describes the next trend in advertising to be geared toward a demographic that is in need of a solution to the environmental problems that all consumers are becoming
more aware of each day.
Essential to your Career
“Exo packaging”
On the other end of the scope, Jeff Domke gives a superbly written step-by-step, learned from experience, guide to obtaining the daunting first design job. Guiding the reader through common mistakes and proven shortcuts, Jeff gives the reader advice that is practical and genuine. These articles combined would provide any job-seeking grad with the knowledge to obtain a job, and design for the future.
The New York Times, client
While CMYK is well known as a tangible publication, it has stepped into the realm of the immediately accessible Internet. Creative work galleries and issue previews can be viewed on the site, but the main goal and purpose is still to help students get noticed. In doing so, CMYK has developed one of the first and most prestigious online portfolio packages for students.

“Blackbirds are Gathering” Andrea Kowch, illustrator Don Kilpatrick/Dave Chow, instructors College for Creative Studies (Detroit, Mich.) “Rich in symbolism, my initial idea behind this painting expands upon the issue of change—whether it’s positive or negative. Some may gain a sense of freedom, or a feeling of fear, or even sadness from it. For me, it signals the changes that are taking place in our environment, which, as a result, ultimately brings about change in our lives.”

Print is a very good magazine for graphic design and How is also a very good general creative magazine with a focus on graphic design. but i think CMYK differs because it explores student photography, student advertising, student design, and student illustration in every single issue. If your a graphic designer I would probably pick up all three mags.
