Beginning next Tuesday, Shvarts will be displaying her senior art project, a documentation of a nine-month process during which she artificially inseminated herself “as often as possible” while periodically taking abortifacient drugs to induce miscarr

she hid from repeated calls from the press after the fraud was exposed, smells like a hoax more than provoking discussion.

i think this is an interesting project and the student had good intentions: to start an open dialog. the only problem is people are talking about the wrong thing. those calling her stupid for putting her body in danger or immoral for killing her unborn child are getting the wrong message. the discussion is the art. the anger and outrage you're feeling due to the social baggage you carry is the art. you should be thinking about why you're so angry with her instead of how wrong it would be for her to do something like this. there weren't any abortions but it wasn't a hoax. she wrote a statement admitting she never impregnated herself and, therefore, there weren't any abortions. she knew the media would attach itself to anything with some shock value and that media attention would be the perfect venue to spread her discussion. the point? why isn't it art if blood is used? or is it art? would it matter if the miscarriages happened naturally? the issues should be more about art than about religious or political ideals.

Ever get the feeling you've been seriously had. I won't even get into the health code or about trafficing in human remains - if that's what you believe they be. (A-huh, and suddenly the clouds lifted and the sun shone threw...)

displaying the miracle of a living, breathing baby is art. killing that baby and smearing it's blood around is a twisted murder, and in no way, shape or form art.

Ok, whether you think abortion is right or wrong, I don't even think that's the point here. The whole point here is that this chick is a moron - purposely getting pregnant just for the sake of having a miscarriage/abortion? What the deuce, man? Both abortion and miscarriages are serious medical procedures and they do have adverse physical affects on the body, especially forced miscarriages. Everyone has the right to express themselves, I guess, but that's just silly. I mean really, the girl could end up dead from medical complications of her "art" experiments, and that wouldn't leave any legacy behind except that she's an idiot. If she's trying to make some kind of statement about the issue of abortion as a right versus wrong moral conflict, it's not working. The only thing she's succeeded in doing is making a total ass of herself. Whether people want to believe in it or not it's their business, and they shouldn't push their beliefs on other people either way no matter what side they're on. That never leads to anything but "mature adults" spitting insults and fighting like silly toddlers over which side is right. Talk about chasing their tails... So basically, in a nutshell: somebody needs to kick this chick out of the gene pool forever. She's polluting it with her idiocy.

It is a choice of the individual to have an abortion and it should remain a private matter. It is not art. It is disgusting to display such things. Seek counseling or talk to a friend, but do not use ART as an excuse for deplorable behavior.

I believe if the younger generation could see and learn the "shock and horror" of what she is doing then I think they would think twice have having sex, with out protection. In some way she may help others see the difficulty of having to lose something precious and think about it twice. I believe in abortion because it is the womens body, not a mans body and the womens decision. What if she were raped/sick/unstable...Though if it is a normal couple responsibility falls on both for no protection, if they did not want a baby. But abortion should be used carefully and not every single time as they say it can damage the body. So I find myself not agreeing with her, but slightly hoping that generation use this as a lesson towards protected sex in some way...I can see why this is causing shock value...but it isn't as if she were the first artist to add shock value...

Picasso was often asked what is art? At least once he responded by saying "art is everything but is it interesting"? I find this whole concept nauseating to the place where it can't be that interesting. It's so sad to know she could not be any more creative than to commit such acts.

I work at an OBGYN and I seen the pain and horror of a miscarriage everyday in the eyes of my patients. Saving the blood and filming the experience of passing a lifeless child through the birth canal is something so psychologically traumatic, that many women never get over it. - and their bodies never fully physically recover. If she wants to make "art" out of a aborted fetus blood, than she is a sick, immoral human being. It will be sweet irony that if she decides to start a family someday, her uterus will be so severely scarred and disrupted from her repeated forced abortion "art project" that she will never bring a child into the world. If that is what she does to unborn children (using them for installations) image the hell and "ideas" she might put a living child through just to "get her point across".

I find this absolutely barbaric that a woman would go as low to get herself pregnant just to use it for her "artwork". I cannot fathom how a person who does something like this can place any value in human life. I cannot help but think about how the Nazis used the human body and fetuses for experimentation. This is even worse because she did it out of her own free choice. I find this just sickening

This is absolutely grotesque. I can see if someone chooses to do related art on the subject matter, that's their choice. It's also the woman's choice what she wants to do in a dire situation with an unplanned pregancy, I believe that to be true. But to purposely create another human being, however small, and purposely injure yourself with the intent to lose the child is just insane. I realize that it's seems I'm contradicting myself. I think if a woman has no other choice but to terminate because of health risks to herself and the child then that's the mom's right. But to premeditate a pregnancy just to abort is disgusting. I spent 26 years with endometriosis and two years trying to have my son. Even if this is a hoax, the thought process is apauling and the school and student should suffer the public consequences of demeaning the program.

It has no social or artistic value to display, only the degenerate depths to which the human mind fall.

Once again, why is this "most recent" user news? The system is definitely screwed up.
