- About Me:
- Michael L. Casad ● Artist-Painter Biography I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t drawing or creating something. It seems that my form of reality came form the end of a drawing or painting instrument. As a child, I made up drawings in the form of comic pages to get my ideas understood, as I believed my words would not convey the same meanings. I was born in Bremerton, Washington on August 16, 1941. Most of my life until I was 18, was moving around the United States with my family. From 15 through 18, I lived in San Francisco, California. My education there poised me for the rest of my life in art. In 1960, I joined the United States Army. Seeing many foriegn lands opened my mind to many new concepts. After the service, I lived in Los Angles and developed my ability to draw and paint. I worked with many corporations on images and paintings to communicate their structure. I moved to the Northwest in 1964 and worked with the Boeing Company as a primary illustrator for a few years. I taught eleven years graduate-level illustration and painting as well as figure drawing at The Burnley School of Professional Art, Seattle, WA (now The Art Institute of Seattle). While in the Northwest, I have painted many paintings of the area and the people who reside in it, the largest of which was the mural “The Water Planet”, showing the recycling of nature and atmosphere measuring 70 by 23 feet. Which is installed at the Visitors Center at Grand Coulee Dam in Washington State for the Bureau of Interior. I have been a painter from 1963 to present, 2008. Michael L. Casad ● Artist-Painter Resume Painter and illustrator for thirty five years. Was an illustrator for The Boeing Company, 1965-1969. Created images for television, video and as a sales tool for client presentation, 1960-1980 created images for NASA; ITT; The Robbins Company; Western International Hotels, Holiday Inns of America, National Parks of America, Sports Illustrated, Mac Milllan Blodel Inc., Canada, Pacific Orient Steamship Lines, Alyeska Pipeline, General Motors, Terex Division; Department of the Interior; and The Battelle Memorial Institute. Eleven years teaching graduate-level illustration and painting as well as figure drawing at The Burnley School of Professional Art, Seattle, WA (now The Art Institute of Seattle). I was the illustrator on a trilogy of books dealing with the dolphins and whales, “Song of the Sea” by Stephen Cosgrove published by Graphic Arts Center Publishing Company, Portland, Oregon. I have painted the portraits of Jean Claude Killy, Jean Louis, Anne Klien, Sebastian Cabot and worked on the images for the poster “The Runner Stumbles”, with the director Stanley Kramer. Painted the mural “The Water Planet”, showing the recycling of nature and atmosphere measuring 70 by 23feet for the Bureau of Interior, which is installed at the Visitors Center at Grand Coulee Dam in Washington State. I have been a painter from 1963 to present, 2008. I work in many mediums oil, acrylic, gouache, watercolor and many drawing mediums. I have used all of these mediums with all of my clients.
