About Me:
Jerome Engelberts was born in Arnhem, The Netherlands in 1959, the son of Dutch painter Jan C. Engelberts and textile designer Marita Rampen. He studied graphic design at the Amsterdamse Grafische School, and photography at the Nederlandse Fotovakschool. Initially, he wanted to become a commercial photographer, but instead became a free-lance cartoonist for periodicals, after which he entered the graphic industry as a designer and later an art director in advertising. Although primarily engaged in drawing, he finally took the plunge into serious painting in 2006. He has been painting voraciously and accumulated over 40 pieces in less than a year. His abstract pieces feature a very limited palette, textures, and geometric elements, and are inspired by a variety of sources, most notably works of Vassily Kandinsky, Japanese art and architecture, and influences that hearken back to his graphic design days. Apart from his paintings, he has also applied his stylistic approach to 3-dimensional objects such as boxes, divider screens, cigar humidors, and furniture.
