Personal
- About Me:
- Jon Shult explores the landscape and figure using a style often influenced by Impressionism. Mr. Shult has taught for the San Jose Unified School District, Foothill College and is a former California Arts Council Artist in Residence. This award winning artist has exhibited frequently in the Bay Area, including the Triton Museum, Works Gallery, San Jose Art League, and the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art. He exhibits in local venues regularly, and operates a gallery in Oroville showing his work. His degrees include a BA in Art from UC Santa Cruz and a MA in Art from San Jose State University. He works in a variety of media including drawing, printmaking, and painting. He usually completes landscapes on site, in oil, occasionally doing some revision in the studio. Some landscapes are painted in a looser style some tighter, and elements of geometry and abstraction enter some pieces. His subject matter varies, from urban scenes to seascapes, and rural subject matter. Jon is also involved with figure painting (clothed and nude), portraits, and printmaking. The term “broken color” often refers to the mixing of color. The effect of mixing two or more colors is duller and less brilliant than that of a single pigment. Although Jon often mixes colors, he refers to the term broken color in the way he use glazes and individual paint strokes in his work. He often uses Broken Color as a title for his art shows. Work can also be viewed by appointment only at: Broken Color Art Gallery 1360 Montgomery Street Oroville, CA 95965 (530)534-5474 Prints of the paintings are also available. Commissions welcomed.
