- About Me:
- As an artist I am always in search of interesting and beautiful subjects. Growing up in Hawaii and British Columbia has helped to develop my appreciation for diversity and nature. In my recent travels I explored eight European countries and cataloged my memories through the lens of my digital camera. I recently graduated from University with a BFA and a minor in Graphic Design. I hope you enjoy my work! Graphic Design Statement: Design is a creative process, a development, and an organization of pieces of information in the most effective way possible. When I design I aspire to convey a message with clarity and elegance. It is my aim to capture the viewer’s attention and to transfer the information to them through a pleasing image. I enjoy the creative process of traversing the unexplored depths of imagination. As a designer, I aspire to think outside the box to discover new ways of thinking. It is sometimes difficult to attain new ideas, but the success is well worth the effort. Fine Art Statement: I aspire to create images that are beautiful. Not necessarily beautiful according to the world’s ideals, but according to the ideology of the One who created everything. My focus is to bring the attention of the viewer to the unsurpassable beauty of God’s creation, and ultimately to the beauty of His own character and person. In selecting materials for a project, I choose what I feel would most accurately and attractively portray the message I am sending. I am drawn to the subject of the soul because it is a link to the Creator. It is through His Holy Spirit that God speaks to our souls and it is that sense of communion I hope to capture in my portraits. Man was created in the image of God and I seek that image through the face of man. Currently, I am focusing on portraiture and capturing a fleeting moment on canvas. I am using acrylic paint with a watercolor technique of application. Building up transparent layers allows me to achieve subtle gradations and slowly bring the figure to life. This technique is challenging in that I must be careful not to paint too thickly or opaquely in a light area. With this technique I am allowing the canvas to be the light illuminating the subject and God to be the Light illuminating the message. Photography Statement: In nature it seems that the photographer is often supplied with irresistible, photogenic beauties and moments that must not be refused the pleasure of permanent remembering. As for myself, I find that the urge to capture these photogenic moments and to share them with the world is pleasantly unavoidable. All that inspires and drives, all that emanates grandeur, all that suggests an infinite, intelligent Creator, is worthy of the limelight. I am specifically drawn to nature and to the intricate design that is so elegantly displayed there. Light is also a deeply moving subject through the lens, because it sets the tone of the story being told. And aside from its physical effects, light has the ability to touch the souls of men. Beauty can even be found in the most destitute of places where a brilliant scrap of crimson, a ray of morning light, or a shy smile grace the camera’s view. During my travels, the camera is one of my closest companions. It has the ability to remember the things that I cannot, and to capture those things I wish to never forget. I am merely the photographer. I piece the elements together, or, occasionally, am fortunate enough to stumble upon one of those unexpected, irresistible, photogenic beauties.

As we say here in the Bay Area: Your art is HELLA dope! Really, you are amazing. I'm a big life drawing fan and practitioner but I have much to learn in comparison. Let's trade notes sometime.
