About Me:
At this stage of my life, I am an industrial designer, working for an innovative company, designing tensioned fabric installations for events, trade shows, museums and architectural markets. I am a divorced father of three, boys Aurimas, 16, Dainius, 13, and the Princess in my life now, Saule Ilona, 8. I have studied art all my life and pursued art related sustenance. My studies began in Vilnius, Lithuania at the M.K. Ciurlionis School of Arts, at a ripe age of 12. This school was and still is one of those dinosaurs, a throw back to 1800 French Academy style education, with a healthy dose of Russian realism thrown in. It was strict and overbearing sometimes, enlightened and inspiring sometimes. I argued with the teachers, got punished and continued.... It so happened that I ended up moving to the US, straight into art college, Pratt Institute, in Brooklyn, NY. Here I studied sculpture for the first year and a half, but switched to photography later, seeing that there was a lot more interaction between the students and faculty in that department. Upon graduation, I embarked on a path to become a commercial photographer NYC. After working for a few outfits, shooting still life and some fashion for a number of years, me and my wife Laima moved back to Vilnius, with a newborn, (Dainius) and Aurimas, almost 3. Laima was teaching at the Vilnius University sponsored by Fulbright scholarship. I found work as a consultant for a local ad agency. I set up their commercial photography studio. Back in the US, it was a decision time... do I go back to college for my masters or we buy a house and raise the kids. We opted for the latter. We settled on Peaks Island, Maine, in a community of retired hippies, artist and generally, less usual people. Eventually, I came to work for Transformit , where I sill work now. Throughout my professional career, I tried to stay involved in fine art, participated in a few exhibition, had a one person show in Vilnius. It seems that I can return to the art part of my life a lot more productively now.
